2003 Top End Nitro Buggy Championships

OCR Raceway hosted the OCR Raceway 2003 Nitro Off road Championships last month, with a fairly conservative turn out of only 7 1/8 nitro buggys, although even with this small turnout, there was some very fast and furious racing, on the 165 metre circuit, with the big double jump being a real equalizer (its 3.5 metres between peaks and nearly a metre high with a crossover between them to allow cars to pass underneath the jumping cars), there was quite a few that came to grief on this which is not surprising as the buggys are landing about 6 metres from the take off ramp. But still are good night was had by all excepting for a blown engine in my Speed 9.5 pro, the Modified Nova Rossi P5 had just had enough just a shame it had to blow in a championship meeting but I guess thats motor racing huh!!!!!!!!!

2003 Top End Nitro Buggy Oval Track Champs

OCR Raceway hosted the 2003 Oval Track Nitro Championships on the 7/11/2003. A reasonable field of drivers contested the event , with 10 1/8 Nitro Buggies competing on the 70m banked oval circuit.
Everyone was going for the lap record which stood at 5.8 seconds and obviously the title, of 2003 oval track champion, there was a couple of new drivers and also a couple of new buggies racing, with the 2 Mugen MBX5's being the ones to watch.
The lap record was beaten in the first heat by 2 drivers, Gary Bui at 5.71 seconds and Josh Bow at 5.77 seconds, the laps times just kept coming down all night, with Tam Bui taking the lap record overall in the prefinal with a spectacular time of 4.84 seconds almost a full second under the old record.
The track surface was very wet for the first 2 heats due to all the rain we had and Tams zealous watering prior the event, but the surface really stsrted to come on from the 3rd heat on with the track conditions in the prefinal being perfect, and the final a couple of drier areas making things a little interesting coming out of turns, heats were run in different directions with the prefinal and final run the same direction
anticlockwise). So all in all an excellent night of racing was had by all with some very fast action taking place.
