2007 UPGRADE / RCID Nitro Buggy Pointscore Series
With the 2007 Speedway Championships held 2 weeks ago at OCR Raceway, a huge amount of track work has gone in to get the venue ready for Round #10 of the Pointscore Series, with a refurbished surface and new circuit design, the new circuit consisting of 245 metres of grippy hard packed surface, with 18 corners, lots of elevation changes, high banked curves, tight off camber hairpin and numerous other technical areas, the new design was going to be fairly testing for the drivers especially in the early rounds until a nice race line developed. A strong field of drivers and huge crowd of spectators turning out for this round of the Series, with 32 drivers battling it out for the honours. After a very slippery practice session, Round #1 got underway just on 7.00pm , with Jarrod Garraway taking the win over Shane Munt and Andy Hird in Heat 1, Shaun Stewart over Rory O'Connor and Chris Hinge in Heat 2, Gary Bui showing Gary Puttock and Kyle Hodges a clean pair of heels in Heat 3, Gary Bui (Xray - Maxpower) setting the fastest lap of 33.781 secs, Heat 4 saw Neil Ingram and Tony Knauth battle it out over 13 laps with Neil (MBX5R - RB) taking the win over Tony (X1CR - RB) by 5.04 secs with Marc Christianson (Losi 8 - Nova Rossi) one lap down in third. Tony resetting the fastest lap on the new circuit at 33.389 secs. Round #2 was an awesome battle with Gary Bui getting away early, Marc Christianson and Tony Knauth racing hard with each other til Marc gave into the pressure making a small mistake to let Tony through, with Gary out in front with about a 10 second gap, Tony pushed hard with Marc close behind to chase down the leader, who on the last lap with only a couple of corners to go made a mistake in the chicane to come unstuck and let Tony take the lead and finish 5.53 secs in front with Marc in third just 8.13 secs down. Round #3 was run in the opposite direction, which really unsettled the drivers some having a definate preference. Heat 4 , Round 3 was again another great battle between Gary Bui and Tony Knauth, with Tony getting the holeshot off the start led the race from start to finish with Gary Bui finishing in second 9.01 secs off the leader and Neil Ingram in third 18.52 secs down, Phil Ciccone (MBX5R - OS) in fourth Marc Christianson fifth, Scott Newhouse sixth, and Kyle Hodges ( Caster - RB ) and Skip Jackson ( X1CR - OS) fighting it out for the lower placings. After Round 3 the overall Top 3 are Gary Bui on 39 laps 24m35.852, Tony Knauth 39 laps 24m42.965 and Marc Christianson 37 laps 24m15.562. Round #4 again saw Tony Knauth (X1CR - RB) get a great start off the line to get away early ahead of Gary Bui (Xray - Maxpower), Tony's lead coming to an early end after coming to grief with a lapped car at the end of the front straight on lap 3, which left Gary Bui to run away with it, with Marc Christianson 23.66 seconds down and Tam Bui (Xray - Maxpower) a lap down in third. Round #5 again saw Tony get the holeshot and get out to an early lead only to be chased down and passed by Gary Bui in the closing stages of the race, with Tony hanging on and making a race of it for first place, unusually ran out of fuel 2 laps from the end letting Gary Bui take the win easily over Neil Ingram and Nathan Tampe (Hyper 8 - OS), both a lap down. Gary setting the fastest lap on the new circuit now at, 33.096 secs.
