At this of year in Darwin it is never a certainty an event is going to happen due to the rainy monsoon season, having rained for most of the week the circuit was in a bit of a state on Friday morning, but with track curator Jim Bowden, working hard throughout the day to clear the water away etc, the circuit ended up looking a treat to start the night, although it was somewhat slippery due to all the sand coming to the surface, and strangely enough with all the rain that had fallen it was very dusty, but thats Darwin, so in the end the circuit still had to be watered a number of times during the evening. It was also nice to welcome another interstate driver to OCR Raceway with Geraldton RC Club president Gavin Newman visiting from WA, Gavin driving an RB powered Xray was showing a good turn of speed throughout the night, taking the overall lead from Gary Bui another Xray driver, in Round 2 and holding the outright lead until the final round, getting tangled up in the always agrressive mass grid standing starts and flaming out. Driver numbers were down on the usual, with the end of year and Christmas approaching, but as always the die hard Nitro addicts were out in force, with some awesome close battles going on throughout, Tam Bui being the fastest driver on the circuit taking the FTD with 13 laps in 8m05.248, and Tony Knauth just behind him with 13 laps in 8m06.170. Another driver worthy of mention is young junior driver Tom Jones having just jumped on the HN Racing X1CR - RB power band wagon is showing some real promise, putting on a show of talent and skill up against the usual front runners. So after 5 rounds of Nitro Buggy action it was Marc Christianson - Losi 8, ahead of Gavin Newman - Xray in second and Tam Bui - Xray in third. Due to it being that time of year our resident photographer has gone missing, so none of those awesome photo galleries we have been used to all season, but we do have some video to show you thanks to Shaun Rawlings.
