OCR Raceway - Open #2
Again we had another big day of clearing water from the circuit to get ready for racing, after more than a week of solid rain, but after a number of hours of toil, by Daniel, Jim and Tony, the circuit looked a treat, only to be turned to slop during the first round of racing. A monsoon shower caused a halt in proceedings but went away as quickly as it came, leaving the track in a bit of a state, but with help from most of the drivers and crews alike, the circuit was made usable again in a fairly short time. A big thanks goes out to all those that grabbed hold of a broom and made it happen. Due to the rain the event was shortened to only 3 rounds of racing. The very heavy track made for some trying times for the drivers, with most struggling to come to terms with the wet muddy conditions, this being the first time most of the drivers had driven under these conditions. Round 1 saw Neil Ingram MBX5R - RB take the win with Junior driver Tom Jones HN Racing X1CR - RB in second and Tony Knauth HN Racing X1CR - RB in third. Round 2 saw the return of the Bui's with Gary Bui Xray - Maxpower pushing through the mud to come home first 7.5 seconds ahead of Tony Knauth with Tim Nicol MBX5R - RB 6.25 seconds behind in third. The overall score after 2 rounds Tony Knauth 5 points, with Neil Ingram, Tom Jones and Tim Nicol all equal second all on 7 points. The final round was a battle of attrition, with some of the front runners succumbing to the conditions, both Tim and Neil not making it to the start line and Tony having a brake locking problem on lap 4 after getting out to an early lead, pulled out of the race, leaving Tom Jones, Gary Bui and Paul Snowball to battle it out for the Top 3 positions with Tom coming out on top just 5.10 secs ahead of Gary and Paul Snowball HN Racing X1CR - RB finishing in third.
