UPGRADE / RCiD 2008 Points Series - Round # 12

 Hodges and Jackson Break through for a Podium Finish!!!!

This would be one of the nights series leader Gavin Newman would most probably like to forget, being plagued by mechanical dramas all night, and second placed overall Gary Bui would be thinking the same thing, with both drivers way down the leader board in Round 12, but with one drivers demise comes another mans fortune, with Kyle Hodges - X1CR - RB, who is no stranger to the podium in the Junior class finally breaking through for an outright Pro Buggy podium, and Skip Jackson - X1CR - RB having his best event ever, stepping onto the podium for the first time.

Round 1 After all the new fastest laps and FTD's set in Round 11, everyone had been expecting some quick lap times, but with the first of the wet season rains coming earlier in the week, the circuit had lost its line and broken up in a few areas, slowing things down a little, with only Knauth - Xray - RB , Tampe - Hyper 8.5 - Sirio and Gary Bui - Xray - RB the only drivers getting into the 31 second bracket, with Knauth the quickest at 31.647, more than a second slower than the lap record set last event. In the end though after an awesome race between Tampe and Knauth, it was Knauth coming away with the win 5.89 secs ahead of Tampe with Marc Christianson - Losi just over 10 seconds down in third, Hodges fourth and Tam Bui - Xray - RB rounding out the top 5.

Round 2 saw another round win from Knauth, just under 3 secs ahead of Newman with Tampe in third, Skip Jackson fourth, Tam Bui fifth, Rawlings, Hodges, Neil Ingram - MBX5R - RB, Tom Jones X1CR - RB and Ciccone rounding out the Top Ten, Ciccone - MBX5R - RB putting down the quickest lap of the night, just 1/1000 of a sec off breaking into the 30 second bracket with a 31.001 secs.

Round 3 Tampe takes the win in round 3 a lap ahead of the rest of the field, Christianson, putting his Losi in second and Ciccone picking up the number 3 spot, Hodges fourth, and Knauth fifth.

Round 4 Knauth takes another win, with Christianson, 25.44 secs down in second, and Shaun Rawlings, pullstart powered Xray EC making it into third, Ingram fourth, Hodges fifth, Jackson, Gary Bui, Tam Bui, Jesse Newman Xray - JP and John Chau - Xray - RB making up the Top Ten. Overall scores leading into the last round Knauth with 3 out of 4 wins on 8 points, Marc Christianson 19 points and Kyle Hodges third on 20 points.

Round 5 the final round for the night saw Newman finally get a good run to take the round win and put down a 15 lap race the only driver this event to do so, just under 7 seconds off the quickest racetime on this circuit, Gary Bui also finally getting a good run to come home in second ahead of Tampe in third, Knauth and Tam Bui filling the Top five.

In the overall 2008 Points Series standings, Gavin Newman is first ahead of Gary Bui in second and Tony Knauth in third just one point behind. Newman does have a fairly comfortable lead but can still lose the #1 spot with one event to go, Round #13 on the 10th October is going to be a race not to miss, with the Top 3 having raced more than 900 laps over the last 12 rounds, it looks like it could come down to the last race of the series to decide who takes the coveted Points Series Crown.

The 2008 Top Dog Dash for Cash Series running over 4 rounds at the end of the season, with a Cash Prize purse at the end of it, series formats etc are to devised yet - The Series runs from 24th Oct to 5th Dec.
