UPGRADE / RCiD 2008 Points Series - Round # 3
With the 2008 Nitro Buggy season in full swing, the dry season is upon us, bringing beautiful cool dry nights with it. With five of the usual front running drivers from OCR making the trip across the country to compete in the 2008 Australian Nitro Buggy Nationals in Queensland, entry numbers were down a little, but that certainly didnt take anything away from the quality of racing in Round # 3 of the 2008 Points Series. With all the drivers keen to take advantage of and put some good points on the board. Round 1 saw a great race between Gary Bui - Xray and Tony Knauth - X1CR with Tony getting away in the end to finish a lap ahead of the field, with Gavin Newman - Xray in second and Gary Bui hangng on for 3rd ahead of Shaun Rawlings - Xray in 4th. Round 2 saw a little controversy with the overall Series leader Knauth having a total brain fade missing the start of the race, Gavin Newman took an awesome win over Gary Bui to finish just 1.73 secs ahead with one of our newest drivers Paul Baddock - Hobao coming home in third 13.93 secs down, and Paul Snowball - X1CR finishing 4th overall in the round. The overall scores after 2 rounds Gavin Newman - Xray 3 points, Gary Bui - Xray 5 points, Tony Knauth - X1CR 11 points, John Chau - Kyosho 12 points, Gary Puttock - RC8 rounding out the Top 5 on 13 points. Round 3 again saw Tony and Gary Bui battling it out for the race win with Tony making up for the drama in the previous round, holding Gary off to finish 8.40 secs ahead and Tam Bui - Xray taking the number 3 spot. Round 4 was again between Gary and Tony, with the win going to the Xray of Gary Bui, with Tam Bui again securing third behind Tony and Junior driver Tom Jones - X1CR fourth and Nigel Ellis rounding out the Top 5. Round 5 saw Kyle Hodges - X1CR get up to take third place behind Tam Bui in second and Tony Knauth in first.
