Well here we are after another fantastic event gone by, the 2008 Shannons Motoring Extravaganza event has been heralded as second to none, this being the third year running the event, spectator numbers and interest in this awesome motorsport just keeps on growing, going from strength to strength, with a huge turnout of people to watch all the action at the Darwin Showgrounds. Round 1 of the action got underway just after 12.00, with all the drivers having had 3 hours of practice on the new grass circuit, everybody was looking on the pace, with Australian RC identity Ian Haley visiting Darwin in support of this event, all the local drivers were excited to pit their skills against the very fast Xray backed racer, and Haley didnt disappoint either taking the first round win 11 seconds ahead of fellow Xray 808 driver Gavin Newman, with Tony Knauth HN X1CR just 0.5 of a second down in third. Round 2 saw local driver Marc Christianson Losi 8 take the win ahead of Gavin Newman with Haley finishing a very close third. Round 3 was the start of Haley's winning run taking the round win 10.85 seconds ahead of Marc Christianson and Gavin Newman .08 seconds behind him in third. Round 4 was all Xray with local racer Gary Bui Xray EC - RB taking the number 3 spot just over 12 seconds behind Newman Xray 808 - Nova Rossi with Haley Xray 808 - Werks finishing just 4.42 seconds in front. Round 5 saw Haley take the FTD for the event with 13 laps in 6m 26.729 seconds, Haley the only driver to put down a 13 lap race, Gavin Newman having a great event took second place again with Marc Christianson again having to settle for third, with Tony Knauth fourth, Shaun Rawlings fifth, Kyle Hodges X1CR, Skip Jackson X1CR, Tam Bui Xray, John Chau Kyosho and Shaun Stewart Hyper 8 rounding out the Top Ten, the overall results so far after Round 5 are Ian Haley 7 points, Gavin Newman 11 points, Marc Christianson 14 points. Round 6 was almost an exact replica of the previous round with Haley taking the win again with a 13 lap race, ahead of Newman and Christianson. Round 7 was again all Haley although not having it all his own way with Newman putting the pressure on all race to finish just 3.65 seconds behind and Knauth in third. Round 8 was a drama filled race for Newman clipping the track barrier on the very fast front straight damaging the Xray putting him out of the race and costing him second place overall, Tony Knauth again took third spot, 17.76 seconds behind the winner Haley with Marc Christianson in second only 2.42 secs down Christianson had been hammering Haley all race, a real spectacle for the spectators. Round 9 the final round of the event went to Haley - Xray, Newman - Xray, Christianson - Losi, Rawlings - Xray, Knauth X1CR, with Jackson - X1CR, Tam Bui - Xray, Kyle Hodges - X1CR, Tim Nicol - MBX5R, Henry Bui - Xray rounding out the Top Ten.

Congratulations to all the drivers for putting on a fantastic display of talent for the crowds, and a couple of special mentions, a big thank you to John Chau one of the drivers from OCR, John won the Caster ZX1 Nitro Buggy package raffled during the event, John was gracious enough to offer the prize back, to be redrawn, the package was won by a very lucky and excited young boy in the crowd, thanks Jonny. Another big thanks needs to go to Daniel White who gave up racing at the event to look after the shop and information booth, selling raffle tickets talking to interested people throughout the event, thanks Daniel we couldnt have done the job without you, and of course thanks to all the people that took the pics and videos, and those that helped with the setup etc of the event.
