UPGRADE / RCiD 2008 Points Series - Round # 9

 Newman fires off another Round!!!!

Coming back from a second place in Round 8 Gavin Newman - Xray 808 extends his overall lead in the Series ahead of Gary Bui - Xray and Tony Knauth - Xray. With the 2008 DAE Nitro Buggy Speedway Championships as the next event, a new oval track is to be laid down over the coming weeks meaning no work had been done to the circuit since the Nitro Challenge, which is to say it was "rough", very rough and very challenging, still the racing was as usual very hard and fast, the lap times not as fast as what Ash Frensham set at the Challenge but certainly within a couple of seconds with Newman pulling off a quick one getting into the 34 second bracket. Round 1 saw Knauth - Xray take the holeshot with Newman - Xray, Tim Nicol - MBX5R and Ingram - MBX5R within striking distance, but with a good clean run Knauth got away to hold the lead until the last lap, running out of fuel within metres of the finish line, letting Newman through for the win with Ingram second and Knauth holding on for third, Gary Bui - Xray and John Chau - Kyosho rounding out the top five. Round 2 had Newman get off the line ahead of Ingram and Chau with Gary Bui and Knauth right with the leaders, Ingram and Newman getting away from the pack were battling out in front, with the lead swapping regularly, John Chau dropping back through the field let Bui and Knauth through to chase down the leaders. With Newman out in front, Ingram running second and Knauth able to break away from Bui was able to make ground on the lead pair to take Ingrams second place only to crash coming off the bridge, giving it straight back and it being one of those nights ran out of fuel again on the last lap dropping to 7th overall, but it was all Newman again taking the round win ahead of Ingram and Gary Bui, with Junior driver Henry Bui - Xray fourth and John Chau fifth. Round 3 was run in the opposite direction, it was Ingrams turn to shine putting on an awesome race, battling with Gavin Newman for 13 laps to take a well deserved win just under 5 seconds ahead with Skip Jackson - X1CR third, Shaun Rawlings - Xray fourth and K yle Hodges - X1CR taking the number 5 spot, The overall points after three hard fought rounds its Newman in the lead on 4 points, Ingram next on 5 points, Gary Bui third with 15 points, Kyle Hodges fourth on 17 points and Henry Bui one point behind in fifth overall. Round 4 saw Gary Bui get a big jump on the field with Ingram and Chau in tow, but the talented Bui just drove away from the pack to finish a lap ahead of second placed Newman with Ingram and Knauth battling for third and fourth, finishing that way, with Rawlings home in fifth, Jackson, Chau, Tam Bui - Xray, Hodges and Henry Bui filling the lower placings. Round 5 the last race on this circuit, proved to be a very very tough race, with the dust and broken up surface playing havoc, but it was Knauth that came through the rough to finally pick off a win after having a woeful night, pushing hard ahead of Ingram in second, Gary Bui third, Newman fourth, Rawlings fifth, with Tam Bui, Tim Nicol, Skip Jackson, Chau, and Hodges rounding out the Top Ten, but after the dust had settled and the score compiled it was Gavin Newman just taking the overall win ahead of Ingram with both drivers on equal points, Newman taking the win by a mere 5.7 seconds.
