2009 OCR Pitshop Open #1

This event was the last chance for the drivers to get up to speed before the start of the 2009 Homewrap Nitro Summer Series, a 7 round Points Series running through til July 17th, with 5 of the 7 rounds counting we can expect the action to full on. Round 1 got underway at 7.30pm on what has been proving to be a very grippy track even after all the rain over the past months, albeit somewhat rough the circuit has been giving up some fantastic racing, the much anticpated start of round saw Newman - 808 Axe Rossi, Tam Bui - 808 - RB and Knauth - HN X2CR - RB get out to an early lead, getting away from the field, Newman held the lead from start to finish, to lay down a 14 lap race in 8min 30.015, with Bui getting knocked out of second place towards the end by Christianson - Losi 8 OS, Knauth flaming out on lap 9 to finish 7th. Shaun Rawlings - Xray XB8 EC - Force putting a big effort to finish fourth ahead of Neil Ingram - MBX6 - RB fifth. Round 2 saw Knauth, Christianson, and Nicol - MBX5R - RB get out with the holeshot off the start with Rawlings and Newman, close behind, Knauth took the win 20.56 secs ahead of Christianson, with Gavin Newman up into third with Jesse Newman pushing for fourth ahead of rawlings in fifth, the top four drivers all in the 33 second bracket with Jesse the quickest at 33.503 secs. Round 3 had nearly the whole field caught up on the first lap, with Nicol, Knauth and Ciccone - MBX6 - RB surviving the carnage to make a break for it, in the end Newman made a big effort to push through the field to take the number one spot ahead of Knauth with Hodges - X1CR - RB picking off the number 3 spot in the round, Gary Puttock - RC8 - Werks coming through for fourth ahead of Tam Bui in fifth. Round 4 Newman got a great start to get a 10 second holeshot on the field to run away with it again leading from start to finish, with Knauth coming back from rear of field to finsh 10.73 secs behind in second, with Bui coming through for a well earned third with Hodges up to fourth, Jesse Newman fifth, Nicol, Rawlings, Ciccone, Christianson and Tom Jones - 808 - RB rounding out the Top Ten. Round 5 the final round of the night saw Knauth pull off a big holeshot to run away with the race to lead from start to finish, to lay down the FTD at 14 laps 8m24.988, taking over 6 seconds out of Christiansons FTD set last event at 14 laps 8m30.979. Gavin and Jesse Newman both pushing hard through the field to take out second and third, Jesse just under a second behind, Kyle Hodges fourth, Tam Bui fifth.

With a huge crowd of spectators and a fantastic atmosphere OCR put on another great night of RC Motorsport action, not only were the Nitro's putting on a show, but the Rock Crawlers competing in the first Crawler comp on the new EXtreme Crawler circuit at OCR were showing the crowds what these awesome machines can do!!!
