2009 Homewrap Summer Nitro Series Rnd #1

Well folks, the season begins in earnest with Round #1 of the 2009 Homewrap Summer Nitro Series, with a good field of drivers all wound up and in form after the warm up events. The circuit was very rough due to a lack of maintenance over the wet season and the fact a new circuit will be built for the 2009 RC Motorsport Spectacular next month, the rough making for some challenging but exciting races over the night. Round 1 got underway at 7.45pm with and awesome battle between Gary Bui - 808 - RB, Tony Knauth - X2CR - RB and Phillip Ciccone - MBX6 - RB, the race finishing in that order, with Jesse Newman - Xray XB8 - OS fourth and Tim Nicol - MBX5R - RB rounding out the Top 5. Round 2 saw Tam Bui - 808 - RB take the round win ahead of Kyle Hodges - X1CR - RB, Gary Bui third, Knauth fourth and Ciccone fifth. Round 3 again had Gary Bui taking the round win and the FTD for the night, the only driver to put down a 14 lap race, Neil Ingram - MBX6 - RB making a big effort to take second after having issues in the warm up laps in the first round, Tim Nicol taking the number 3 spot. Round 4 had Hodges and Knauth battling out in front after the pair got a big holeshot off the start to run away from the field, Knauth was able to make a break for it towards the end, Hodges making a mistake to allow Gary and Tam Bui through for second and third, Hodges hanging on for fourth, with Nicol, Ciccone, Newman, Henry Bui, Shaun Rawlings, and Ingram, rounding out the Top Ten, with 20.51 seconds seperating the top 6 drivers at the finish line. Round 5 the final round of the night saw an awesomne race between Ciccone and Knauth unfold, with the pair swapping the lead throughout, Ciccone getting the upper hand in the end to finish 7.76 secs ahead of Knauth with Nicol 18.23 seconds back in third. The event was webcast live as will all the events this season, so not only did we have a sizeable spectator crowd, but we had over 100 online viewers tuning in the watch the Live action.
