2009 Homewrap Summer Nitro Series Rnd #7 - Final

Bui Takes the Outright Series Win from Knauth !!!!!

With the final round of the series now completed it was Gary Bui driving an RB powered Xray 808, who takes the top step on the podium, Tony Knauth Hyper 9 - RB in second, after leading the series from the start only to experience a drama filled final round, both drivers finishing on 9 points after 7 rounds of racing over 6 months, Bui took the win on a countback. Tam Bui - Xray 808 - RB held on to third outright from a hard charging final round onslaught from Phillip Ciccone - MBX6 - OS and Kyle Hodges - HN X2CR - RB. The Junior and Sport Buggy classes also going down to the wire, both being decided in the final race, with Leigh Jefferies - Xray 808 - RB taking the number one spot, Rory O'Connor - TTR - OS second and Henri Raafs - Hyper 8.5 - OS third, and the always hotly contested junior buggy class was taken out by the talented Tom Jones driving an RB powered Xray 808, another of the Bui family on the podium in second with Henry Bui Xray 808 - RB, and Samantha Coffee - MBX5R - OS our only lady racer having done enough all series to retain her third place.

Now onto the Round #7 race report.

Round 1 saw Gary Bui take a 1 lap win over the field with Kyle Hodges second and Gavin Newman third, Bui putting down the quickest lap of the event with a 31.187 seconds, Round 2 was all Hodges taking the win 6.25 seconds ahead of Newman with Ciccone putting his MBX6 in third, Tom Jones and Tam Bui rounding out the Top five. Round 3 again had Gary Bui in front by a lap with Ciccone up into second with Newman a further 6.2 seconds down in third, Jones and Tam swapping positions this race to fill the top five. Round 4 had young Jesse Newman in fantastic form to show the field the back of his car for the whole race to finish 4.63 seconds ahead of Gary Bui, with Gavin Newman just 0.6 secs behind in third Leigh Jefferies getting up for a fourth place, Tom Jones fifth, Tam Bui, Kyle Hodges, Shaun Rawlings, Phillip Ciccone and Mark Sinclair rounding out the Top Ten. Round five the final round of the series, was all Gavin Newman finishing 1 lap ahead of the field, with Ciccone coming home with a hard fought second fending of a hard charging Kyle Hodges just 2 seconds behind, with Gary Bui and Tom Jones filling the Top Five.
