2009 OCR Nitro Champs Series Rnd #1

Rawlings takes his first Pro Podium

Shaun Rawlings driving a Force powered Xray XB8 EC takes the top step on the podium in Pro Buggy, Rawlings after moving up from the sport buggy class last season, has been sitting just outside the podium recently and finally putting it all together, holding out some of the high powered engines to take a huge outright win, in the first round of the series.

On to the racing, round one saw Skip Jackson - MBX6 in form to take a 10.09 second win over Tim Nicol - MBX5R with Tam Bui - Xray 808 a further 6 secs down in third, this was a fantastic race with just over 30 seconds seperating the top 6 drivers at the end. Round 2 had Tam Bui in front by 1.68 seconds on the line ahead of Rawlings - Xray with Phillip Ciccone - MBX6 just 3.73 behind him and Nicol another 10.1 secs back. Round 3 saw gary Bui - Xray 808 get up to take a win ahead of Tony Knauth - HN X2CR, with Kyle Hodges - HN X2CR in third, Rawlings fourth, Nicol fifth, Henry Bui, Ciccone, Tam Bui, Ken Gilchrist - RC8 and Mark Sinclair - Xray 808 rounding out the Top Ten. Round 4 was a great battle to watch with Knauth, Gary Bui and Rawlings fighting it out swapping the lead between the 3 nearly every lap, with a couple of small mistakes from Rawlings towards the end let Bui and Knauth get away, with the 2 going head to head for the next couple of laps, it was very close, but after a tangle coming onto the front straight Bui's car flamed to let Knauth through for the win, Hodges second, Rawlings third Tam and Henry Bui fourth and fifth. round five the final for the night saw another great battle between the frontrunners, with Knauth getting away to put a lap on the field, Rawlings putting his Xray in second ahead of Junior Buggy driver Henry Bui, Nicol fourth, Tam Bui fifth, Ciccone, John Chau - Xray 808, Gary Bui, Hodges and Sinclair rounding out the field.
