2009 OCR Nitro Champs Series Rnd # 6
Round 6 was a real Family Affair at OCR!!
With Gavin Newman and son Jesse taking the top 2 spots in Pro Buggy and Matthew D'Arnay and son Luke both taking a podium spot in Sport and Junior Buggy, it was night of father versus son racing, awesome stuff!!!!
On to Round 1 - Kyle Hodges - X2CR - RB and Tony Knauth - Hyper 9 - RB got a fantastic holeshot just 0.16 seconds apart on the first lap with Jesse Newman - 808 - Nova Rossi another 3 seconds behind first time over the line, Hodges making a couple of small mistakes early on to let Knauth run away with to finish a lap ahead of the field to pick up the win and the FTD for the night, Sergio Manalvo - MBX6 - OS second, coming back through the field after getting caught up on the start, to finish just 0.24 seconds ahead of third placed Hodges.
Round 2 - Saw Manalvo and Gavin Newman battle it out for the holeshot with Phillip Ciccone - MBX6 - Nova Rossi and Knauth right on their tail, the 4 drivers pushing hard swapping positions all race, with Newman coming out on top Manalvo second, Ciccone third ahead of Knauth fourth, just 16.4 seconds seperating the four at the end.
Round 3 - Was all Ciccone's Holeshot, with Skip Jackson - MBX6 - Nova Rossi just 0.5 seconds behind, but again it was Manalvo making a move through the field, with Jesse Newman, pushing him to the limit, Newman getting within 5.38 seconds of the leader at the end, with Ciccone home in third, Hodges fourth, Tam Bui - 808 - RB fifth, Gavin Newman, Dean Baker - Caster - EP, Shaun Rawlings - XB8EC - Force, Jackson, and Matthew D'Arnay rounding out the Top Ten.
Round 4 - What a race this was, true pressure racing with under 0.5 seconds seperating the Top five drivers average lap times, with all five averaging in the 38 second bracket, and at the end the top six finishing 13.17 seconds apart. But in the end it was all the Newmans, with Gavin taking the win, 0.53 ahead of Jesse, Manalvo third 2.49 from the leader, Knauth fourth, 6.26 down, Hodges fifth 8.71 down and Ciccone sixth 13.17 down, Bui in seventh, Baker and Jackson battling for the final 2 spots.
Round 5 - Hodges blew everyone into the weeds in this race, after getting a big holeshot, along with Newman, Newman pushing him hard early on for the top spot, but making a small mistake on lap 5 let Hodges run away with it to lead from start to finish. Knauth coming through the pack to get onto Newmans tail, the 2 drivers battling hard, swapping position lap after lap, until Knauth made a big mistake getting caught up under the bridge, letting one Newman get away and another Newman catch up, Jesse taking the number 2 spot, Knauth 7 seconds behind in third just holding out Gavin Newman by 1.3 seconds, Ciccone rounding out the Top Five.
With the final round of the series next and the first of the dropped rounds coming into play this event, it really is on with Knauth holding the outright lead, Hodges has moved up to second, bumping Rawlings into third outright, the Series is still wide open with drivers as far down as ninth outright still able to secure a spot on the podium, the next event will be one not to miss.
