Nitro-X Masters Series Rnd #3

Knauth cleans up!!!!!

Tony Knauth driving an RB / Hyper 9 combo takes a hard fought win in Pro buggy and the round win in the Hyper Truck control class, against some stiff competition.

This is the first of 7 rounds in the 2010 OCR Champs Series for the Nitro Buggy classes and the Hyper Truck control class, the Hyper Trucks really gaining momentum with new drivers joining in almost on a daily basis!!! This event also incorporates Rnd #3 of the National Nitro-X Masters Series.

On to the Racing !!!!

Round 1 Pro Buggy - saw Knauth Hyper 9 - RB, do a runner on the field early on with Jones Xray - RB close behind, Knauth getting away in the end to put a lap on the field, Jones finishing strong in second ahead of Steven Peckham, RC8E - Mamba third. Hyper Truck - had Dave White, Knauth, Baker, Newhouse and Christianson swapping paint throughout the race, Knauth coming to grief in the closing stages with a motor failure, with Dave White, pushing hard to finish 8.42 seconds ahead of Newhouse and Dean Baker getting the better of Danny White to finish third.

Round 2 Pro Buggy -Knauth took another win to finish a lap ahead of Dean Baker, with Tom Jones right on his tail just over a second behind, Peckham and Skip Jackson filling out the Top 5. Hyper Truck - was a fantastic battle between Christianson, Dave White and Knauth, again the drivers putting on a great show, Knauth getting the better of them to finish 12.74 ahead of White, Christianson 2.90 behind in third, Baker and Logan Wolfe rounding out the Top 5.

Round 3 Pro Buggy - had Jones out in front early on and staying there till the end Knauth getting caught up off the start chased him down to get within 2.76 at the end with the electric RC8 of Peckham finishing strong in third. Hyper Truck -again had the Top 3 drivers pushing hard, with Newhouse getting up into the mix pressuring the front runners, in the end though Christianson and Knauth racing so close at the end with Knauth taking it on the line with a 0.56 margin, White just missing the buzzer to finish a lap down, Newhouse and Baker fourth and fifth.

Round 4 Pro Buggy - again saw Jones do a runner, Knauth pushing hard to stay in touch with the leader, getting right up to him only to make a small mistake in the closing stages to finish nearly 20 seconds behind Jones, with Baker a lap down in third, Peckham fourth Henri Raafs - Hyper 9 - RB fifth, Gary Clark - Hyper 9 - Alpha sixth. Hyper Truck - Danny White and Dave White getting an almost identical Holeshot got away early, Danny coming to grief at about halfway, Baker and Knauth coming back through the field after getting caught up early on, the pair going past Dave White, on the second last lap to finish, with Knauth first, Baker second, Dave again just missing the buzzer to finish a lap down in third, Russell King coming through in fourth, Newhouse dropping to fifth with an electrical fault, Sean Stieber and Logan Wolfe fifth and sixth, Danny White, Gary Clark, Shannon Ward and Brad Jackson all battling hard to round out the field.

Round 5 Pro Buggy - The final round of the night has Tom Jones and Knauth on equal points at the top of the scoreboard, with under 4 seconds seperating them, the night was still anyone's, but as happens the smallest things can let you down, with Jones succumbing to a failed clutch bearing on the grid, effectively handing the win to Knauth, who led from start to finish, with Peckham pushing hard to stay in contention, Baker pushing peckham all the way to the end, Gary Clark making good with a fourth place, ahead of Danny White. Hyper Truck - Knauth making a clean sweep of things takes the win in the final for the night 13.41 ahead of Baker, Dave White third, Logan Wolfe fourth, Brad Jackson working hard to pull his best time for the night.

Its early days for the OCR Champs Series, but with only 2 rounds left to run in the Nitro-X Masters series, things are really starting to hot up, with a different winner at each round, it's getting very close at the top, with Knauth now moving into the lead, 3 points ahead of Sergio Manalvo, and Tom Jones moving up into third.
