The Short Course Truck Battle is ON !!!
The Short Course Truck control class is fast becoming the Premier racing class at OCR, with another big field of trucks competing, and with the acceptance of the Hong Nor SCRT10 truck into the control class this week, we can expect this class to grow even further, with brand rivalry now in play and the trucks edging closer and closer to the Nitro Buggy lap times, the truck lap record reset again at this event with another .009 seconds taken off down to 32.910 seconds on the 245m circuit, 15 truck fields, awesome race action and intensely close finishes, the Trucks are here to stay!!!
On to the Racing !!!!
Round 1 Pro Buggy - Saw Sergio Manalvo - MBX6 back in form after a short break away to take the round win ahead of Tim Nicol - MBX6 and Tony Knauth - Hyper 9, Skip Jackson - MBX6 and Phillip Ciccone - MBX 6, Nicol getting into the 30 second bracket straight up. Short Course Truck - Saw Marc Christianson get straight down to business, putting down some nice 33 second laps to finish a good 10 seconds ahead of Scott Newhouse and Daniel White another 3 seconds back in third, Knauth and Baker filling the Top 5.
Round 2 Pro Buggy -Not a good race for Manalvo, clipping the back wall on lap 3 tearing the front end of his MBX6, a fantastic race ensued with Jackson and Nicol getting away early with almost identical Holeshots, Knauth getting on a roll after getting caught up on the start to reel in the leaders, the 3 drivers putting on a great show to finish just over 9 seconds apart on the line with Nicol in front ahead of Jackson and Knauth, Kyle Hodges Hn X2CR and Dean Baker filling the Top 5. Short Course Truck - Had Knauth's Hong Nor SCRT10 off to a good start with a good Holeshot to run away with it, to finish nearly a lap ahead of Newhouse and Danny White.
Round 3 Pro Buggy - Saw another great battle, between Jackson, Manalvo and Knauth, Jackson getting the Holeshot by 0.4 of a second, the 3 drivers pushing each other to the limit, Manalvo and Knauth getting away in the closing stages, the pair swapping the lead back and forth until a slight altercation between the 2 on the last lap put Manalvo on his roof, Knauth in a fine show of sportsmanship waiting for him to be marshalled, the pair in a drag race down the back straight to the finish line, with Manalvo crossing first just 0.8 ahead of Knauth, Jackson 6.20 behind, Ciccone home in fourth, Steven Peckham - RC8E fifth. Short Course Truck - Christianson with the Holeshot and getting away early only to have temperature problems on lap 4, let Baker, Knauth and Newhouse have it all to themselves with Knauth coming through for the win just 1.27 ahead of Baker, 21.86 back to Newhouse.
Round 4 Pro Buggy - Had Jackson, Manalvo, Ciccone out in front early, Ciccone coming to grief on lap 7, Manalvo making a few small mistakes throughout, Nicol with a very consistent run getting out in front at about halfway with Jackson and Knauth chasing him down, Jackson making a mistake on lap 12, Knauth chased down Nicol to go past him on the second last lap only to make a mistake, the pair pushing hard for the finish line Nicol making it through for the final lap, Knauth just missing the siren to finsh a lap down, Manalvo coming back for third place. Short Course Truck - Was a 15 Truck race, and with mass grid starts, there was always going to be some carnage on the start, Knauth, Clark, Stieber, Christianson and Danny White all coming through unscathed, missing all the mess in the first corner to run away with it, Knauth doing a runnner and resetting the lap record, to finish 11.15 ahead of Christianson, Danny White 4.5 seconds further back in third, Dave White, Baker, Newhouse, Peckham, Clark, Stieber and newcomer Dylan Thomas rounding out the Top 10.
Round 5 Pro Buggy - A 13 car race, a very hectic race on the tight OCR circuit, saw Manalvo get the Holeshot, just under 6 secs ahead of Knauth, the only 2 to get away clean, Knauth making a small mistake on lap 2 giving Manalvo a bit of space and with lapped traffic coming into play early on, Manalvo appearing to get a reasonably clear run through back markers, Knauth and Nicol, pushing hard through the field to get within striking distance, Manalvo making a mistake in the closing stages, Knauth running consistently ahead of Nicol to finish just 2.12 behind the MBX6 of Manalvo. Short Course Truck - Another 15 car race for the trucks,, and with the drivers learning from the carnage of the previous race, was much cleaner off the start, with Baker doing a runnner ahead of Christianson and Newhouse, the 3 getting away early, Knauth coming throught the pack after an early crash to go past Baker on the second last lap to take second, Newhouse taking the win on the line by just 1.11 secs over Knauth, Baker making up some ground under 2 seconds behind in third, Danny White and Russell King fourth and fifth.
Another great night of racing at OCR, a big crowd of spectators adding to the always fantastic atmosphere!!!!
